Do not let the size fool you into expecting a cushion ornament. Energy is moderate — the Yorkshire Terrier wants its daily walk and its games like any dog on this register. Tolerance for time alone is moderate: a settled routine makes reasonable absences workable, though it would rather supervise you in person.
With children the sheet says needs supervision. That is not a mark against the children or the dog; a tiny dog and small hands simply want an adult in the room. As a first dog the answer is yes, and a flat suits it well — the space question rarely troubles this breed.
