French Bulldog
The register's one line calls the French Bulldog a compact bat-eared companion built for city rooms. Here is what its rating sheet actually says.
The temperament sheet
Energy is rated low. This is a dog content with modest outings and a good deal of company on the sofa, not a running partner. The company matters more than the mileage: its tolerance for being left alone is rated poor, and a household that stands empty most of the day is the wrong household for it.
With children it is rated good, and it carries a yes for first-time owners — the sheet asks little that a careful beginner cannot give. Space is marked flat-ok; a garden is a bonus, not a requirement.
The practical side
A small dog. Grooming is rated low, so coat care amounts to a routine brush rather than a standing appointment. Shedding is moderate all the same — a short coat is not the same as an absent one. Barking is rated quiet, which neighbours on the far side of a thin wall will notice and appreciate.
Before you decide
Treat the sheet as a starting point and nothing grander. Individual dogs outrank their breed sheet, and meeting the dog outranks everything.
