The temperament sheet
Energy is rated very high, the top of our scale. This breed needs serious daily work for body and mind, and no rating on this page matters more. Time alone is rated poor, and it pairs badly with all that energy; the Husky does not do idle solitude gracefully.
With children the rating is good. For first-time owners the answer is a straightforward no — this is a breed for owners who already know what a working dog asks of a household. Space: needs a garden.
The practical side
- Size: medium.
- Grooming: moderate. The coat wants regular, unhurried attention.
- Shedding: heavy. Plan the housekeeping around it, not the other way round.
- Barking: vocal. Huskies have plenty to say, and they say it.
